Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Investigation of a functional material related scientific/technical research problem given by the supervisor: student design the work with the supervisor, performs the experimental part, analyses the results and writes a repor in a scientific style. Variable topics offered by responsible teachers.

  • Applies in this implementation:

The course comprises of a personal research project including experimental work and written report.

NOTE! Due to continuously changing coronavirus situation, some works may become fully/partly literature and/or data analysis, modelling etc. works which can be done remotely. However, we try to keep as much experimental part as possible. Your supervising professor has the last word in this.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Individual project and written report: the performance and independency in the lab, ability to keep up with the agreed timetable and the report affect the grade.

The timetable and more detailed content of the project is agreed with the supervisor of the work.

However, the work should be performed and final report submitted within 1-4 months from the start of the work and no later than 31st July.

Workload
  • Valid 01.08.2020-31.07.2022:

Individual project 135 h (5 cr) or 270 h (10 cr): includes experimental work, manuscript workshop and analsying and reporting teh results.

The work should be performed and final report submitted within 1-4 months from the start of the course and no later than 31st July.

  • Applies in this implementation:

    5 cr

    - Experimental work: TOTAL 80 - 100 h lab work = 2-3 weeks of active lab days (8 h / day, 5 days in week). This can be distributed into 1-2 months.
    - Report writing: 35 - 55 h

    10 cr

    - Experimental work: TOTAL 200 - 240 h lab work = 5-6 weeks of active lab days (8 h / day, 5 days in week). This can be distributed into 2-4 months.
    - Report writing: 35 - 75 h
