Huomaa! Kurssikuvaus vahvistetaan kahdeksi lukuvuodeksi kerrallaan ja esimerkiksi osaamistavoitteet, arviontimenetelmät ja keskeinen sisältö pysyvät pääsääntöisesti samana. Kullakin toteutuskerralla voidaan kuitenkin kurssiesitteen avulla tarkentaa ja muuttaa kurssin toteutustapaa, kuten kontaktiopetuksen järjestämistapaa, arviointimenetelmien painotusta tai materiaaleja.

OSAAMISTAVOITTEET

Knowledge: After completing this course, the student will
1. understand the importance of social acceptability aspects in science, technology and business education and societal development.
2. gain knowledge about the methods, applications and measuring tools of social acceptability.
3. able to formulate a variety of optimization problems, which solutions can be used for making better decisions (e.g. allocating resources, selecting routes and assigning tasks).
4. understand the fieldwork methods in real-world situation.
5. sustainability issues in energy, transportation, marketing technology and environment.
6. gain increased understanding in using interdisciplinary survey tools to societal development.
7. learn to digest a broad range of previously obtained knowledge that helps them to deal with real-life, real-time and interdisciplinary problems.
8. recognize principles of systems thinking and be able to apply them to study the system of interest.
9. understand how to use problem-solving management methodology, SWOT, SMAA, MDCA in conducting empirical research, and
10. identify the most important interactions between different disciplinary perspectives

Skills and competences: After completing this course, the student will
1 be able to construct context -specific policy for decision making.
2 identity a scope of work that is acceptable to society, and that also represents meaningful academic contribution.
3 be able to advance in his/her level of critical thinking in matters of both decision -making policies connected to social and public policies.
4 have experience in leading an interdisciplinary team towards a common goal.
5 be able to describe practical recommendations on science, engineering and business education and societal development in oral and written form.
6 gain increased confidence to orally present their work.
7 generate new competency by integrating lecture and written material with preexisting knowledge.
8 be able to apply additional confidence to discuss complex matter openly in classroom-type circumstances, and
9 have experience the unique characteristics of the field environment and gain increased confidence into students’ ability to meet the challenges of empirical work and added sense that empirical research is as academically invaluable learning approach.

Guest lecturer outcomes: Firstly, mentorship for students: human-technology systems in real-world situation. Secondly, collaboration model: bestowed with knowledge about field research needs. More specifically, share and exchange of practical work experiences in different contexts. Thirdly, influence outcomes in the lives of course participants can be profound. Finally, realize the concrete outcomes of the course.

Course aim and objective: The purpose of this course is to, through the process of self-reflection, provide students’ an overview of the relationship between social acceptability aspects (e.g., public participation in decision making, social acceptance, community
acceptance, market acceptance, organizational and socio-technical systems, communication, environmental aspects) and methods of field work and their implementation in practical world. With an interdisciplinary research approach-based in real world contexts, we will give a general portrait of social acceptability aspects in different science, technology and business contexts and technological approaches and their implementation; we will explore various sustainable societal barriers and overcoming strategies (e.g. tools and techniques). The course also aims at facilitating students’ understanding about social acceptability aspects and different technological approaches in addressing economic, social, environmental and technological sustainability. Besides, the course model is to encourage participants develop a better understanding of and manage the practical work issues and dilemmas they encounter in practice, and to help participants to ensure good management in terms of making practical work plan, survey and questionnaire.

Content: Course content reflecting mentioned goals and objects includes acceptability in different science, technology, business, professional standards of practice, legal requirements, self-awareness about professional behavior and decision-making processes.
