In this course you will read classic, groundbreaking and influential theories on leadership.
This course is recommended to anyone planning on doing their Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis in leadership, to those interested in different vantage points about leadership and to those interested in alternative theoretical approaches to leadership. This is consequently designed to be a theory-driven and theory-heavy course which complements other courses in leadership, change management, and micro-perspectives in strategy.
In this course you will become acquainted with many well-known theories into leadership, and learn about leadership literature through influential articles. You will need to make sense of the theories, how they are related and/or different from each other, and how useful or helpful the different theories are from your own point of view.
Assessment Methods and Criteria

This course is graded 0-5 based on an essay. The essay is based on literature review and applying the readings. In addition to the essay, compulsory reading groups will be formed and need to meet at least 5 times during the summer.
Workload

The estimated workload of the course elements is following:
- Lectures 2x1,5 = 3 h
- Intro essay 4 h
- Outro essay 30 h (approx. 1 page per 2 hours = 15 pages)
- Readings 90 h (approx. 4h per academic article)
- Reading-group meetings 5x 10h (includes a short report by one of the participants)

The course begins with a lecture on 3rd of June at 13.00 and ends with a lecture the 19th of August at 1300. There are only two lectures on this course. Otherwise the reading and writing of the essays is self-directed.
