CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content
Applies in this implementation:
The course is composed of three one-day sessions, each dedicated to a topic. The pedagogy is experiential, hands-on learning which exposes participants (as far as possible) to opportunities to creating impact from research. Each session mixes lectures, discussions, workshops, teamwork and guided exercises to make sure the participants apply the lessons to their own research.
During the first session, participants will first deepen their understanding of research impact and its importance. They will then be guided through lectures and exercises in which they work out the impact potential of their own research and identify its beneficiaries, end-users, and stakeholders. By the end of the day, they will be equipped to conduct interviews with representatives of these groups, which is their task for the second session.
During the second session, participants will work through their stakeholder interviews and then spend the day learning about how to communicate effectively about their research impact, applying these learnings to their research through workshops and guided exercises. By the end of the day, they will be equipped to create their own communication plan for research impact.
During the third session, participants will take the work they have completed so far and begin devising a concrete roadmap for themselves to create research impact. They will learn about possible pathways to research and ecosystem resources supporting different pathways, and will spend the rest of the day applying these learnings to their own research.
After the end of the course, participants will be required to submit an essay reflecting on how the course affected their research plan and a research impact roadmap plan for their own research.
