CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content
valid for whole curriculum period:
This course introduces students to the process of material selection, with emphasis on materials selection in mechanical design, and teaches basic knowledge and skills about material selection criteria and their use in systematic material selection. A brief overview of the state of the art in engineering materials is also included, with a discussion of major trends that affect mechanical design.
During the course students will learn to use a computer aided material selection program, Cambridge Engineering Selector (CES).
The course consists of independent reading and computer exercises, class discussions and a final assignment where students apply what they have learned in practice.
