LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course students:

  • Can compare different project types and suggest different suitable management approaches for them
  • Are able to identify contextual factors, complexities and uncertainties affecting the management of projects, project-based firms, and their networks
  • Can schedule tasks and manage time, and structure the project organization for effective time management
  • Have the ability to classify risks and uncertainties, and select appropriate management approaches in different uncertain conditions
  • Can select management approaches and methods that enhance innovation in projects
  • Can distinguish between different responsibility arrangements among multiple participating firms when buying projects or subprojects
  • Can select appropriate contract types and design appropriate contractual conditions when buying projects
  • Are able to analyze how real-life projects, project-based firms, and their networks are managed, and what are the relevant business contents in those real-life projects, participating firms, and their networks respectively
  • Can evaluate and select appropriate management approaches and processes for real-life projects, project-based firms, project networks, and business networks
  • Have the ability to reflect upon different materials and tasks in assignments and in contact teaching events
  • Can find their own role in group work among other students, and help own and other groups to learn

Content

    The course covers the application of project management in different types of projects and in different organizations and industries. The course focuses on advanced project management approaches and methodologies in:

    • Organizing, scheduling and management of time in projects
    • Project strategy
    • Buying projects and subprojects
    • Contracts and different contractual arrangements in project business
    • Management of risk and uncertainty
    • Innovation in projects
    • Management of projects at the firm level, and management of project and business networks

    The project business framework is used for covering the distinctive and interconnected management areas of: management of a project, management of a project-based firm, management of a project network, and management of a business network.
