CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content

In this course, students focus on developing their spoken and written English communication skills to better express their expertise to a particular audience.
Students develop and deliver a spoken presentation on an existing personal project or research area within their field of expertise.
As well, they are able to choose between a number of modules to create an individualised path for developing their written skills with a focus on their demonstrating their expertise.
During the course, students participate in individual, pair, and group work as a way to enhance their spoken skills.
As part of the course, students also become familiar with the elements of an effective presentation.
Depending on the modules chosen, the course may include elements of both creative and academic or professional writing, such as applications, analyses, and artist/designer statements.
The main emphasis of these activities is on improving students competence in using English for communication.
During the course, students also develop skills for giving and receiving constructive peer feedback.

This course fulfills the mandatory foreign language requirement for ARTS Bachelor studies with both oral skills (o) and written skills (w).
This course replaces LCA-1009 Talking Art, Design & Architecture.
