LEARNING OUTCOMES

after successfully completing this course, students should be able to:

  • Continue development of an existing concept to add maturity still keeping the essence of the original idea..
  • Plan and execute prototypes and their development of a conceptual design to a validated concept level, demonstrating a strong design intent.
  • Perform assessment of a design in multiple dimensions, including manufacturability, and sustainability related impact of conceptual decisions.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course has a lecture and workshop series, that supports a team design projects starting from an existing design concept which then is iteratively developed to more mature design. Students will use various physical and digital models to develop and evaluate projet.

    The course requires for students to preferably enter with a presentable concept. The students will develop it further in groups of three. Early in the course  they'll define those attributes of the system, which they will try to test out, analyze and report -including some further development proposal in form they propose. During the weeks 2-6, the students develop, prototype and test the concept. The project report will be delivered on week 7, together with the project presentations.


Assessment Methods and Criteria

    The evaluation is based on student activenes, execution of several subtasks, quality of the product concept, and final presentation. Self-evaluation and peer evaluation is also used.

  • applies in this implementation

    The course expects approximately 170 hours of work put towards the project, per student. The evaluation is based on that amount of work.

    Criteria:

    • the witnessed and documented progress during the course; 40%
    • the quality, relevance and insights of the reflection; reflection reporting; TBD 40%
    • Final presentation; 20%

    The course materials include reading of approximately 20-50 pages of academic literature (primarily articles). The materials are referred to in weekly questionnaires which ensures integration of them, the project, and the lectures to achieve the learning outcomes.
