Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course the students can:

  • distinguish different purposes of mechanical testing in different contexts
  • understand the operating principles of typical measurement techniques used in mechanical testing of materials, and the resulting limitations of the techniques
  • analyze the requirements and possibilities for measurements to characterize the deformation behaviour of materials
  • compare the specifications of mechanical testing equipment with the requirements of a measurement
  • recognize and quantify sources of error and uncertainty in measurement results
  • choose appropriate testing methods in different situations
  • carry out some standard mechanical tests and evaluate the results
  • study other methods in mechanical testing independently
