LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course follows the design of an experimental building from first sketches to a finished and constructed design. This process introduces the students to essential aspects of design and construction using wood products and materials as well as methods of pre-fabfication, transport and assembly.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content
valid for whole curriculum period:
This experimental building studio looks in depth at the special characteristics of wooden building and allows students to follow the entire process of design and construction. The group works together to develop an idea into a detailed design including plans for use, permits, fabrication, construction, transport and assembly on site.
In the fall, students develop individual proposals for a building project. In the spring, they work as a group to develop a feasible design for construction. Finally, the group executes the project in the workshop and the site as a full-scale structure.
Assessment Methods and Criteria
valid for whole curriculum period:
Students are evaluated on their skills in design as well as their ability to work together to design and develop a group project. The primary assessment is based on the detailed evaluation of the completed project.
Workload
valid for whole curriculum period:
The course meets once weekly during period II in the fall and twice weekly during periods III-V in the spring.
Sessions are organized around tutoring, presentations, site visits and group meetings as necessary.
Design development of proposals for an experimental building (period II). Development for a feasible design and construction in groups (perods III-V)
405hrs - (spring term) development and construction of group project
