CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content
valid for whole curriculum period:
The course builds on a sound knowledge of cellular components and pathways and aims at how these components and pathways can be genetically engineered in order to create new or improved versions. Modifications at the DNA level and strategies for identification and selection of improved cellular systems are covered. Methods include working with DNA (e.g. PCR, molecular cloning, expression) and working with proteins (e.g. ELISA, SDS-PAGE). The course provides the theoretical background and practical skills.

Teaching Period : 2022-2023 Spring IV - V
2023-2024 Spring IV - VEnrollment :
Max. 20 students. Students in Biotechnology major are prioritized. If more than 20 students enroll, all the students of Biotechnology major are accepted, if enrolled in time. If there is space, other students (Aalto degree students and exchange students) with sufficient background in chemistry and biology can be accepted to the course.
A course implementation may be cancelled if the number of students enrolled to the course implementation does not meet the required minimum of five students. In the case of cancelled course implementations, the students enrolled to them must be provided with an alternative way of completing the course or be advised to take some other applicable course.
