LEARNING OUTCOMES

The key objective of the course is to help participants develop a good dissertation proposal. After the course the participants have an understanding of many important tools and frameworks for theory development and research design and an ability to apply them in the development of their own research proposals.

Content

    The course covers areas relevant for developing a good research proposal including problem formulation, literature review, theory and hypothesis development, research designs, and methodological choices. The course is intended to be an arena where students can discuss about their research projects and get feedback from the faculty and from their fellow students.

    Attendance in seminar sessions, assignments, seminar presentations, readings, exam, and developing a research proposal.

    Registration for Courses: Starting from the academic year 2021-2022, registration for courses will take place on Sisu (sisu.aalto.fi) instead of WebOodi. The course is intended primarily for first-year doctoral students majoring in strategy and venturing, but suitable also for related areas of organizational research. The course builds on for the fall-term course Research Methods in Industrial Engineering and Management. Students wishing to participate in the course are recommended to take first the fall term course. However, passing the fall term course is not a prerequisite for the participation.
