Which Is Your World? Oshii Mamoru Between Animation and Live Action (2 ECTS)

    9.1.-13.1.2023 / Odeion

Oshii Mamoru is mainly known as one of the most innovative and visionary of anime masters – but in reality, his oeuvre is quite evenly split between animation and live action, with the latter having taken center stage in the last fifteen or so years. What makes Oshii's cinema so interesting is that he moves freely between these two spheres, narrating sometimes even tales from the same story worlds in both forms. Watching and discussing choice examples of Oshii's art will offer us a unique opportunity to talk about questions like “What is real in cinema?”, and how seemingly opposing artistic approaches might turn out to be just two sides of the same coin.
