    –When we think of icons representing Finland, what comes first to mind?

    Israeli artist Roy Maayan will lead you to immerse yourself in the subject during a three-day workshop in the Aalto University ceramics studio, with technical support from ceramics studio master Tomi Pelkonen. The workshop will consist of hands-on clay work, where imagery of iconic items both from Israel and Finland will be played with. An exhibition of the outcomes will be displayed in Beta Space Gallery, opening on 6.10.2022. The course is organized by CoDe/the Program in Contemporary Design.

    Teacher of the workshop ROY MAAYAN is a potter and interdisciplinary artist. His work examines the social, political, geographical, and formal clay-making techniques, procedures, and methods. His artistic process involves the exploration of different materiality of clay through the insertion of novel substances, which are not traditionally affiliated with the ceramic world. Maayan collaborates regularly with artists of varied artistic forms and genres, exhibits, and lectures in different places around the globe. He holds a BFA in Ceramic Design from Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem (2002), and an M.A. in Multidisciplinary Art Program from Tel Aviv University (2006).
