LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students will be familiar with:

Basic facts about: educational attainment of the workforce, returns to schooling, labor market differences between demographic groups, discrimination and anti-discrimination policies, labor taxation, subjective expectations, etc.

Main theories for understanding

Examples of empirical work investigating these theories

The course will also cover main methods used in recent research in labor economics: in particular, laboratory, experimental and structural methods.

    The course offers a comprehensive overview of modern theoretical and empirical methods in labor economics to explore educational decisions, labor market inequalities across demographic groups, and the effects of policies like taxation and affirmative action. The course will also cover topics such as intergenerational mobility, discrimination, gender differences, and insights gained from experiments in labor economics. Structural modeling of education and job choices, as well as wage determination, will also be explored, combining theory with practical evidence.
