  • understand basic product design processes and methods​
  • understand the basics of a human-centred approach to design​
  • develop insight into how products are manufactured​
  • understand what drivers and design choices affect physical designs of products​
  • understand basic business aspects of product design​
  • communicate their findings and argue the design merits of various designs​

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Students work in interdisciplinary teams. Each team is assigned a product that is analysed from the perspectives of design, business, and engineering. The analysis is supported with lectures and workshops related to manufacturing techniques, materials, services, users, etc. The outcome of the analysis is presented in a final gala.​

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Assessment is based on the depth and richness of the product analysis, clarity of the presentations, quality of the teamwork, as well as participation and activity during lectures and workshops. Self- and peer-evaluation is also used and can affect the final grade.
