Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To understand the principles of geodesy and geodetic measurements of distance, height, angle, and gravity. To understand the basic principles of satellite positioning. To understand the principles and importance of reference systems. To be able to compute basic coordinate transformations and simple adjustment computation. To become aware of the geodetic research topics and applications done on the Earth and in space.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

The course gives students a basic understanding of geodesy and geodetic techniques both on land and in space, concentrating more on the surveying type of measurements with total station (tacheometer), levelling and satellite positioning both in kinematic and static modes. Reference systems, map projections and height system basics are introduced and discussed. The basics of space geodesy are also covered.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Exam and exercises

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Lectures (24 h), assignments (50 h), self-study (62 h), preparation for weekly quizzes/examination + examination (26 h)
