LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course the student has gathered personal experience on operating mines. Her/his understanding is improved on the effect of local conditions on mine operations. The student has improved skills to relate theory to mining praxis.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Visits to operating hard rock mines and mining equipment manufacturers. Operation processes are studied and compared.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Students prepare and present reports on selected subjects after the tour. The reports are prepared in group. Each one will prepare an indivual chpater and each will get an individual grade. The weighting of the grading is:

    • Overall appearance of the report. Focus is on the joint chapters.
    • Individual report chapter
    • Presentation
    • Quality of Internal assessment report and overall activity during the excursion and during reporting.

Workload

    Lectures at visiting sites 15 h. Guided visits in mines 15 h. Preparation of reports 20 h. Presentations 4 h.
