LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successful completion of the course, student is able to:

1. understand different ways in which cultural practices shape and change fashion design practices and understanding of fashion;
2. understand key theoretical developments in fashion cultures;
3. understand fashion design as embodied practice and fashion as an expression of identity;
4. understand how technological development changes fashion design and fashion cultures.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

  This course provides students with understanding of fashion as a globally dispersed cultural phenomenon. The course consists of lectures, seminars, readings, discussions, individual and group work. The focus is on cultural study of fashion and contextualising fashion design practice within the larger frame of fashion cultures. The course will provide students with conceptual and theoretical tools for contextualising their practice within the larger frame of culture which they can utilize in their MA-thesis work.

  Assignments. 100% active attendance, of which 20% can be covered with additional assignment.
