LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successful completion, a student is able to:

• Summarize the basic terminology and the technical and functional requirements in the field of interior textiles;
• Describe the process of designing interior textiles for a specific environment and/or application;
• Identify the use of textiles in interiors and architecture and understand the basics of selecting textiles for high-performance public spaces (contract textiles) and architecture.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

• valid for whole curriculum period:

  This introductory course to textiles for interiors and architecture consists of lectures, company visits, tutoring sessions, a design assignment, and a critique. Interior textiles are discussed in the context of residential environments and various contract spaces. The lectures and visits introduce the students to the properties and requirements of interior textiles. Further topics include textiles in architectural scale and context. The assignment is adjusted to each student's previous knowledge of textiles, products- or interior design.

   

Assessment Methods and Criteria

• valid for whole curriculum period:

  The final grade for the course is based on student’s attendance and participation in the contact teaching as well as group work and the assignments that the students complete during the course. Students must attend and actively participate in at least 80% of the contact teachings. Introductory session is mandatory.

   

Workload

  The course includes lectures and assignments.

  Overall workload (6cr): 162 h. Minimum 80% attendance in contact teaching is required

  The course is organised by FaCT/Department of Design in collaboration with the Interior Architecture MA programme. Information for students who are in the FaCT Advanced textile workshop courses: the schedules are adjusted so that taking this course in the same semester is possible.
