Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Mathematical skills: After completing the course, the student:

    1. understands the concept of proof and its necessity.

    2. is able to formulate mathematical statements using sets, functions and logical symbols.

    3. is able to apply the induction principle in various situations.

    4. knows how to count combinatorially defined objects using the multiplication principle and the principle of inclusion-exclusion.

    5. can construct graphs describing both everyday and scientific situations.

    6. is able to heuristically solve colouring and spanning tree problems on small graphs.

    7. can solve linear Diophantine equations and compute in modular arithmetic.

  2. Generic skills: Through the course, the student develops their ability to

    1. collaborate to solve problems in groups.

    2. communicate mathematical ideas coherently in written and oral form.
