has practiced the most essential experimental and analytical methods in the area of biomass refining and can also describe some less conventional practical laboratory methods,

is able to present findings in written and oral format.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content

Student teams plan and execute a fractionation scheme for (wood) biomass, aiming at understanding it from ra material, process and product perspective. The laboratory work includes preparation, pulping, bleaching, and characterizing the biomass raw material and products. The student team reports the project in a written report and presents the work in a seminar.

Quality of presentation (data presentation), coherence (conclusions are supported by results), accuracy of the content.
Workload

135 h in total; Lectures & workshops 15 h, Project work 115 h (including ca. 60 h practical laboratory work and ca. 60 h report writing and other tasks).
Assesment is based on laboratory work, project report and presentation.

Max. 20 students. Students in Biomass Refining and Bioproducts Engineering majors are prioritized. A course implementation may be cancelled if the number of students enrolled to the course implementation does not meet the required minimum of five students. In the case of cancelled course implementations, the students enrolled to them must be provided with an alternative way of completing the course or be advised to take some other applicable course.
