  • One-day task, short description / Marja Viitahuhta

BEFORE heading to make the video task of the day, we will warm up (i.e. move our bodies a bit) and do a few rehearsals in pairs and in the group in order to prepare ourselves for not only planning and shooting the videos but also to performing in them.

    A) Make groups of 3 to 4 people.

    B) In relation to the theme of "anthropocene" you will make a short film set in the future. The duration of your film is 5 minutes.

    C) Write a script, plan how you film it, what kind of framing and angles you will use. Think of your focus: is it images, sounds, narrative, actions, dialogue, sets and props, surrounding?

    D) If needed, ask other group members to help out in acting etc.

    E) Film your work "editing in camera" i.e. in the right order, take care of sound (loud enough, no noise from other people / wind / traffic).

    F) In the end of the workshop we watch these films together. Bring your file to your teacher, and let's put them oll rolling from computer / monitor so that we can share them in the end of the day.

Pay attention to the following guidelines:

    - Prefer showing, not acting.

    - If you include text in your work, think about its form (is it a list, a confession, a poem, stream of consciousness, description or something else).

    - Think of images, movement, framing, sound, narrative.

    - Pay attention to rhythm, sound or silence of your performance.

    - Who do you make this work to? What is the tone of it? Be not afraid of being serious or personal. The work can also be funny! But if you prefer comedy, approach it with same ambition as a more serious piece, i.e. the work itself is not a joke even if it would make us laugh.

    - Share, discuss and do not be afraid of performing to a camera. All performances should be dealt with respect and empathy, so as to lower the step to try it out.
