Topic outline

    • Read the Ch. 2-3 of the book “Potential and Trends in Biomimetics”, make a 5 min video where
      1) you introduce yourself (what is your background and what motivates you in this course)
      2) you explaining what is biomimetics.

      DL:  6th March, 10:00 am.

Remembe to make all the normal Individual and Group Tasks too before the deadline, like
      Reflection I
      Group Meeting 1.

    • Make max.  5 min video where you explain your ideas to Group Work and explain one possible biomimetic material for it. Show also the reference to the scientific paper from which you have found the material.

      DL:  13th March, 10:00 am.

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.

    • Make a max. 10 min video (max. 200 MB) where you
      1) introduce THREE biomimetic materials (which you have found from scientific papers)
      2) explain what is their functionality
      3) list what are the main material properties
      4) explain what is its applicability in different applications and which properties and design environments are relevant for each application

      DL:  19th March, 23:55.

NOTE! If the file is too big (over 200 MB which is MyCourses limit), you may submit a link to your video here.

      You can use for example

      aaltofi-my.sharepoint.com

where you can upload your video and make it "public": then you can just copy-paste the link for example on Word and submit that.

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.

    • Make the following Compensating Exercises (submit them as a one Word or pdf document):

      1) Make 4 firts exercises (found in the attachment) by using CES Edupack program (can be found from cimputer classrooms of CHEM). The 5th exercise is so called demo exercise which we showed in the session, you can make it too (just for learning) as you can use this tool also in your Final Report...

CES Edupack program can be found from all the computers in the School of Chemical Technology's computer classrooms.

CES Edupack has also very good tutorial videos which will help you in these exercises:

Submit the answers and the extra Ashby diagram in ONE document (with referencea) here, the deadline is 2nd April, 10:00 am.

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.

    • Based on the lecture slides and course book "Biological Adhesive Systems" (http://bib.fi/w15lLg ) write 3-4 pages reflection on the topic

"Physical interfaces meets the organism: how to mimick adhesive systems found in nature?"

Select 2-3 systems found in nature and concentrate on chemistry at the interfaces and theitr function in adhesive systems (and how they are mimicked synthetically).

Submit the essay in here, the deadline is 9th April, 23:55 pm.

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.

    • Expand your notes of self-healing, colour changing and slippery surfaces to an essay - find one scientific paper of each functionality (having biomimetic materials), i.e. 3 new papers and write min. 1 page / property.

Submit the essay in here, the deadline is 23rd April, 23:55 pm.

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.

    • Discuss with your group the peer feedback that was given in the contact session #7. After that, write a short list of action points needed to finalise the report. Submit the action point list here before final submission of the group work (19th May).

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.
    • Make a video as a part of the Group Work which is embedded in the Group Work presentation (and it is shown by your group members during the presentation).

      DL: 14th May, 23:55 pm.

Remember to make all the normal Individual and Group tasks too.
