Topic outline

CS offers poster printing for CS staff (only), others should check Unigrafia.

    1. Create a poster with the software of your choice. There are Aalto templates for at least InDesign and LaTeX.  Also check the CS Material bank wiki page.
      1. Posters should not have background color.
      2. Printing is for Aalto CS affiliated people.  The poster should say say the affiliation somewhere on it - text or logo, whatever.
    2. Create a pdf file of your poster, in the size you want it to be printed (A0 or A1, also A2 but you'll need to cut it in half from A1). Do not exceed 300 dpi resolution for images in the final size.
      1.  Note: our paper roll is actually Arch E width (914mm), not A0 width (841mm).  We expand size to fit our roll so that margins are equal, but this means the actual size is larger than A0.  If you want true size, let us know but you will have to remove excess margins on one side.  This is most noticeable for A0 portrait and A1 landscape posters.
    3. Reduce the size of your pdf file to a maximum of 20 MB (preferably 10 MB). You can also use a cloud-based service for this, see: https://smallpdf.com/
      1. Or, on Linux, this seems to work: gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/printer -dNOPAUSE -dQUIET -dBATCH -sOutputFile=out.pdf in.pdf
    4. Send the poster the by email to posters@niksula.hut.fi. We handle printing requests as fast as we can, but it is a best effort service and we do not have a backup printer, so you should reserve at least two working days for printing. Once printed, you can fetch your poster printed in matte paper (heavy weight coated paper, 130 g/m²) from the printer at T-building, 2nd floor, room A227 in the middle of A-corridor.
    5.  If you need glossy paper or print on fabric (a good option, as it fits to suitcase), the printing needs to be done at Unigrafia. Send the poster by email to otaniemi@unigrafia.fi (more info in Aalto Inside. The cost can be estimated with this:http://www.unigrafia.fi/fi/pikapainon_hinnasto/posterin_hintalaskuriRemember to add the paying project number to your email (ask your supervisor about the number)

    Sizes

See Wikipedia, but this is for your reference.  Please enjoy hating imperial american paper sizes.  The bold items are what people most commonly request, since they generally make the most sense.
