The course follows constructive learning philosophy in which it is essential to learn to discuss and listen to others, and to construct further one's own thinking. The way of working will emphasize students' personal development through relational discourse, appreciative argumentation, and feedback. At first the course will focus on conceptual aspects of leadership and later these theoretical lenses will be used in looking of more practical view points of the course topic.
The learning process consists of preparatory readings/articles which will familiarise the students with the leadership topic of the forthcoming lecture. The students are requested to write and submit a short essay (so called mini-essay) before each lecture based on the pre-readings. During the lectures the topics will be deepened and discussed further. The way of working on the lectures will be based on active discussions and participation in small groups, contributions by the lecturers, and sharing the ideas within the whole group.
Addition to the mini-essays the students will write two larger essays, one in the beginning of the course (Introductory essay) and the second in the end (Reflection essay). In the Reflection essay the students will summarise their learnings and construct their personal leadership philosophy. Furthermore, the students will be given a Group assignment to explore their personal experiences on leadership.
