Topic outline

  • This means that your 'Extended Thesis Plan' is approved by your study program/major and you have your supervisor and possibly advisor(s).
Additionally, you have completed THESIS: PART 1 and received 10 ECTS.

    [COMPULSORY ACTIONS]
In this stage, you are expected to carry out your thesis plan considering the workload of 10 ECTS credits. This is possibly the most important and most 'subjective workload' part to you throughout the thesis process.

This stage ends with an Oral Presentation organized by your study program/major. Check Oral Presentations Schedule with your study coordinator or Programme Director / Major Head.

At the presentation, you will get constructive feedback from your supervisor and advisor(s) to make further improvements to finalize in PART 3.

Depending on your type of thesis, during this stage, you may be involved in:

    • extensive studies via research activities; or/and
    • a project with external partner(s); or/and
    • explorations of your design practice with a creation of certain artefacts.

You will be primarily guided by advisor(s) as well as study coordinator while further developing your thesis in this stage.

    [MUST KNOW]
During this stage, your study programme/major organizes thesis seminar independently. Check with your study supervisor/advisor(s) and study coordinator. See the following activity "Study Programme/Major Thesis Seminar" to fill up (optional).

During this stage, your supervisor may suggest you to use Turnitin to check possible and unintentional plagiarism in your thesis. Based on ARTS Thesis Guide, preventing plagiarism is your responsibility and later your supervisor will check the Turnitin report before submission to print the work in PART 3. If you are not familiar to it, see the following activity: "Independent Turnitin Originality Check"

    [CONSIDER]
    - View the "Support for Studying" if you want to know what other supports are available from Aalto University.

Once you are done with the task, you may jump into the THESIS: PART 3.

    • Check with your study coordinator or programme/major head (or supervisor if you have one).

After participating the thesis seminar, write your study programme or major / date / location / theme / organizer of the activity.

This is to help you track your progress.
