Topic outline

  • PART 3 requires your 10 ECTS credits workload to finalize your thesis.

    [COMPULSORY ACTIONS]
At this point, you have carried out most of your thesis plan. You have completed PART 1 and 2.

Now, an important part of the thesis process remains. You need to revise your own work based on the feedback from the oral presentation. The following questions can guide you to do that:

    • What did 'we (your target audience)' learn from your process and outcomes?
    • What is the broader significance of your thesis?
    • What kinds of blind-spot or biases might there be?
    • What could be done differently?
    • What should be further looked at?

Throughout the previous stage PART 2 and Oral Presentation, you may have experienced some changes from the plan and that is fine. However, you have to still consider possible ethical issues. See the following activity to review again: "Research Ethics and Integrity" as well as "Aalto University Students' Rights and Responsibilities", especially when you work with others for your thesis.

Latest at this point, you need to know how to make use of previous resources, properly quote and acknowledge them. You also need to understand how and when to acknowledge people who have in other ways contributed to your thesis.

After the revision of your thesis, with an approval of your supervisor, your thesis can be uploaded to eAge.

You have two options to publish whether (1) the whole text or (2) only abstract and basic information. However, even if there’s only abstract and basic info, anyone can email library and ask them to send the full thesis as a pdf.

All approved MA theses are public documents after they have been published in Aaltodoc. This means that there is no way to graduate and keep thesis out of public circulation.

This is one reason why using Turnitin is such an important tool for us.
When you give Turnitin permission to save thesis content in its database, all future plagiarism (at least via Turnitin) will become visible. In addition, a thesis in Aaltodoc database makes it public and therefore acknowledges authorship.
See the following activity:"Independent Turnitin Originality Check"

The use of any images in your thesis should be assessed carefully: "Requirements for Using Images in a Thesis"

    [MUST KNOW]
Before you present your thesis, your study program/major may organize a thesis seminar independently to help you prepare for the presentation. Check with your supervisor or/and study coordinator.
