Topic outline

  • Numerical matrix computations, fall 2020, period I

    Prerequisites:

MS-C1343 Linear Algebra (or other basic(+) knowledge of matrices).
    Basic knowledge of Matlab.

The course can be passed by two methods:
    1. Exercises(60%) + course exam(40%)

    2. Extremely difficult, hope crushing exam only.

Course material is covered in the book "Trefethen, Bau: Numerical Linear Algebra" and the lecture notes.

    Practicalities

This fall the course is organized remotely.

Each week a set of exercises is chosen, to be returned via MyCourses by next week. The exercises will be based on the lecture notes and short lecture videos. See details on exercise points in the Assignments section.

We will provide guidance with the exercises via a public Zulip chat room (requires login) when we are available, or at least during weekly scheduled "exercise sessions". You can also ask questions via email.

Some exercises require Matlab, which can be installed on home computers following the instructions at https://download.aalto.fi/.
