Topic outline

  •  PART 3 requires your 10 ECTS credits workload to finalize your thesis.

At this point, you have carried out most of your thesis plan and you prepare your final thesis hand-in. Some things to consider:

    • Make use of previous resources, properly quote and acknowledge them. You also need to understand how and when to acknowledge people who have in other ways contributed to your thesis.
    • Please consider possible ethical issues. See the "Research Ethics and Integrity" as well as "Aalto University Students' Rights and Responsibilities", especially when you work with others for your thesis.
    • Use the Turnitin-plagiarism detection system before you submit your final thesis hand-in. In ARTS, Turnitin is used as a tool to check if all your citations in your thesis work are done correctly. Your draft should have all the text parts including the abstract and the reference list. The use of any images in your thesis should be assessed carefully: "Requirements for Using Images in a Thesis".
      • You can use “IndependentTurnitin Originality Check” and send the result report to your advisor. If your advisor is from outside of Aalto, please check the result report with your supervisor
      • OR you use the SUBMISSION BOX BELOW – You can resubmit multiple times but be aware that after 3rd time it takes 24h for the report to be created.
    • After the revision of your thesis, with an approval of your supervisor, please upload your full-size thesis PDF to the eAge system (electronical archiving) within the submission deadline date!! (checklist below). You have two options to publish whether (1) the whole text or (2) only abstract and basic information. However, even if there’s only abstract and basic info, anyone can email library and ask them to send the full thesis as a pdf. All approved MA theses are public documents after they have been published in Aaltodoc. This means that there is no way to graduate and keep thesis out of public circulation.

This is one reason why using Turnitin is such an important tool for us. When you give Turnitin permission to save thesis content in its database, all future plagiarism (at least via Turnitin) will become visible. In addition, a thesis in Aaltodoc database makes it public and therefore acknowledges authorship.

The checklist for submitting the thesis:

    • Submit a PDF/A version of your thesis to the database. The work is archived as one document (including the abstract and  possible other attachments).
    • Name the file without Scandinavian letters (e.g. ä and ö) and special characters to the following format: school'sabbreviation_publishingyear_lastname_firstname.pdf, (e.g. arts_2013_meikalainen_matti.pdf).
    • If you wish, you can save the cover page as a separate file (png image file format).
    • The artistic component of the thesis is archived in digital documentation. If you have separate digital documentation of your artistic component (pictures, audio, video material), save it as a separate file(s), remember to add also credentials and meta information for the documentation. Please note that if the documentation is included in the written part there's no need for separate documentation material.
    • Login to eAge with Aalto user name.
      • NOTE: the information you will be asked after logging in:
