Topic outline

  • We warmly welcome you to the 5G Hack the Mall Course!

The course consists of online lectures, a learning diary, as well as online group project work on challenges given by companies and other organizations. The course is taught in English and is held fully online.

Even though some of the lectures are mandatory, attendance at the time they are streamed is not. The lectures are recorded and they can be revisited at a later time. Additional lectures are for you to deepen your knowledge in a specific subject, according to ones interests. These can be highly beneficial for solving the challenge and we encourage you to take part in them if possible.

As the lectures will be recorded, please take that into account when attending the lectures. The chat won’t be recorded, so if you don’t want to be seen or heard in the recording, ask questions via the chat. Lectures and lecture slides can be found under the “Materials” section. (International participants: check out the information about sharing non-public materials down below.) Details about the learning diary can be found under the “Learning Diary” section and details about the project work can be found under the  “Project Work” section.

Under the section "Q & A", you can find a form via which you can send questions to the experts. The answers will then also be collected to the same section.

In order to stay up-to-date about everything, please follow the “Announcements” channel in MyCourses. If any questions arise, we advise you to read through the MyCourses once again. If you are still left with questions, please send them to laura.puusola@aalto.fi or eveliina.lajolinna@aalto.fi.

    Schedule

The course kick-off is on Monday 7.6.2021 at 9:00 and the topics of the project work will be presented on Monday 7.6. at 13.00 – 16.00. All times are given in EEST +3.

The groups will give their first presentations on the challenge of their choice on Friday 11.6. at 12.00 - 16.00. The final proposals for solutions will be presented on Friday 18.6. at 12.00 - 16.00.

There will also be two 20-minute challenge owner meetings arranged for every challenge group during the course (one each week). Because of their busy schedule, the exact appointment times will be given later, possibly even with a very short notice. The meetings will take place between 9:00 and 17:00.

In addition, we are offering mentoring sessions throughout the course. Again, because of their busy schedule, the exact appointment times will be given later, possibly even with a very short notice. Stay tuned for more!

Learning diaries are to be submitted by Sunday 27.6. at 23:59.

Full weekly schedules can be found down below, but during the course there might be some updates (e.g. in additional lectures), which can be announced under the “Announcements” channel.

    For International Participants

If you are not enrolled at any Finnish university and do not have a Finnish personal-ID, this information concerns you.

Since MyCourses platform cannot be as flexibly used by visiting international students, you will get access to the non-public materials (lecture videos and slides, other material needed to be shared privately) via email. We’ll get back to you about these closer to the course.

Again because the MyCourses platform cannot be as flexibly used by visiting international students, we have provided you information about submitting your assignments under the sections “Learning Diary” and “Project Work”. Please read those carefully through.

In order to stay up-to-date about everything, please make sure to follow your email.
