    Course info

Welcome to the PDE course. The learning objective of this course is to understand fundamental phenomena and techniques related to PDEs that are relevant in mathematics, physics and engineering.

The PDE course will be lectured in English. The course will be 12 weeks long and will run during  teaching periods I-II.  The tutorial sessions will start in the first week of lectures and will run every week. Homework assignments can be found on Assignments page.

Course practices will be discussed in the first lecture (in zoom) on 13 September at 14.15-15.00. It is important to attend the first lecture even though information is also available in MyCourses. We have adopted a flipped classroom model for the course. The participants are expected to study the announced pages of the lecture notes (and watch the lecture videos) in the beginning of each week. There will be pre-lecture yes or no problems with deadlines on Tuesdays. The exercise classes will be from Wednesday to Friday. In the exercise class, you can get help for solving homework problems.

Enrollment: Please sign in for the course in Sisu by choosing the tutorial session that you will attend. Group H04 will have remote meetings (zoom), groups H01-H03 will be on campus. If all the groups are full, send an email to the lecturer (Riikka Korte). It is not possible to increase the size of groups H01-H03 due to COVID restrictions, but we can accept everyone in group H04. Please check that this course is in your primary study plan. It is possible to enrol even if the course is missing from your study plan, but it might be impossible to register the results for those who do not have the course in their plan.

Exams: There will be an exam. Time and date can be found in Sisu. We try to have the exam on campus. If it is not possible, then there will be a remote exam.  It is possible to pass the course by taking only an exam ("tentti" 100%), but it different from the course exam ("loppukoe" 40%).

Grading: 40% course exam, 45% homework assignments and 15% pre-lecture assignments.

    Instructor:  Riikka Korte (riikka.korte@aalto.fi).

Head assistant: Cintia Pacchiano (cintia.pacchiano@aalto.fi) (group H04)

Assistants:  Oscar Kaatranen (oscar.kaatranen@aalto.fi) (groups H02 and H03) and Julius Vaulasto (julius.vaulasto@aalto.fi) (group H01). In addition, Lauri Särkiö (lauri.sarkio@aalto.fi) will grade some of the homework assignments (group H04 L).
