    Lectures
    Lectures will be given via Zoom every week on Wednesday (9.15-11.00). The link to the Zoom meeting can be found in the Lectures section of Mycourses. The slides and the recordings will be published there too after each lecture. Every lecture will contain a quiz and some quick pen&paper exercises that you'll need to submit to earn activity points. 
    To prepare for the lectures:

    • Study the corresponding material from text books, e.g. for the Jurafsky-Martin book the relevant chapters are listed in a file that can be found from MyCourses > Materials > Mapping to Jurafsky's book. For other books, read chapters that match to the topics that you can see in the slides
    • Download the slides (the first draft will appear slightly before the lecture)
    • In the lecture it is recommended to use: a laptop, a phone and pen & paper: the optimal way is to join the zoom with your laptop and have your phone ready to participate in the kahoot quiz and to make a photo of your pen&paper solutions and upload the file into the box in MyCourses > Lectures > Lecture Exercise
    • Ask questions in Slack (#week-n), Zoom chat, Raise hand, or use all of them. If nothing else grabs the lecturer's attention then just turn on your mic and speak. Slack is maybe the best, because it can be used outside the lecture, too, to provide better answers and follow-up.

    Assignments
    There are 5 mandatory home assignments. The deadlines are every Wednesday at 23:59 (starting 10.11.). Submission boxes for the assignments are located in the Assignments section of Mycourses. Instructions will be published there too.

    To help you with the assignments, we're going to hold Exercise Sessions. The Exercise Sessions are going to be held over Zoom, the link to the Zoom meeting will be published later. During an exercise session, first, a TA is going to introduce the tasks of that week's assignment and, then, you can start working through the assignment and ask questions.

    During the first week, we're going to have two identical Exercise Sessions on Thursday 4.11. (10.15-12.00) and on Friday 5.11. (14.15-16.00). You can choose either. Later, we'll decide if both of them are needed or if we can leave only Fridays.

    Project
    Project work is a mandatory part of the course. The work is done in groups of 2-3 students and includes a literature study, experiments, a presentation of the results, and a final report. 
    You'll be assigned to a group and a topic according to your answers to the entrance survey. Each group will also have a tutor to support you through the course. The tutor will meet you every week to help you progress

    Grading
    There is no exam, the grade is calculated based on the home assignments (50%), the project (40%), and the lecture activity points (10%). To be assigned to a project topic and a group, remember to fill in the entrance survey before the first lecture!
