This is a course on principles of biomedical imaging. The course is focused for students of BME and NEURO majors in LIFE MSc program. The key learning method at this course is solving various imaging problems on a computer; the lectures give some background info and cover essential maths & physics.
To pass the course, the student needs to- Solve enough exercise problems. There are five exercise rounds, and answer sheets must be timely returned for at least four rounds. The first two rounds (Intro and Part I) are mandatory.
- Timely return at least three course journals and tentatively review and grade other students' journals. The journal of Part I is mandatory.
At the end of the course, the students shall have familiarized themselves with core concepts and theory of imaging, applied these concepts by analyzing imaging systems and estimating/reconstructing various images, and meanwhile learned problem solving, collaborative working, algorithmic thinking, and mathematical programming.
The course is designed for students of BME and NEURO majors. As prerequisites, we assume a BSc degree from Engineering Physics or Bioinformation Technology and experience in mathematical problem solving using computer. Also computer science and applied maths BScs with some physics background should do fine. BSc students tend to consider the course difficult or heavy; for them, participation to teaching, working in teams, and good study skills are very important. With suitable background, the planned workload is 130 hours. Please see also the official course descriptions in Syllabus and SISU.
The exercises and related lectures are produced by different teacher-teams that are coached by the head teacher. Each team takes the perspective of one imaging modality.
