Topic outline

  • In this module, we'll move to the solution space in the case work and learn about effective ways to create novel ideas. To bring this to life, we'll have a Content Specialist from Lindström, Marthe Dehli, visit our class 22.3. to talk about making room for creativity, sharing examples from the different organizations and countries she's worked in.

If you'd like to check out a bit more information on Lindström in advance, take a look at the Sitra circular economy case on their workwear as a service.

    Activities of the module

    • Session 4. Ideate (virtual lecture) Thu 17.3. 10-12 on Zoom
    • Reading A Multilevel Design Model: the mutual relationship between product-service system development and societal change processes (Joore and Brezet 2015)
    • Assignments (due 22.3)
      • 435 brainwriting exercise (MURAL template, or pdf template). Do this as a group, discuss the ideas generated (no need to make a selection, but you can already look for patterns and interesting solution directions).
      • Individually, do the forced ideation exercise using the Multilevel Design Model (Joore and Brezet 2015). That means, generate ideas on the product level, the product-service level, the spatio-social level, and the socio-technical level.
      • Individually, choose a solution direction based on which is most desirable (yet still feasible and viable).
      • Individually, create a storyboard (pdf template) and detailed concept description (pdf template) for your solution direction.
      • As a group, decide on the labels for the axis diagram (e.g. desirability and viability). Discuss all ideas one by one, and position them on the axis diagram. Finally, choose or combine one solution idea to continue with.
    • Quiz Ideate due Tue 22.3. 9am
    • Session 4. Ideate (workshop) Tue 22.3. 10-12 hybrid: Design Factory Stage and Zoom, including visiting speaker Marthe Dehli/Lindström
