Monday Materials: Inventory with MC case Folder

This session will be a bit different. We will be solving a (Q, R) inventory case in groups during the lecture.

The case description is MediHerb MC simulation case description. Excel file to work with during the session: Medical Company MC for AOM Student. You'll find files in this folder.

For materials on Monte Carlo simulation with Excel and inventory models, check the corresponding blocks in Analysis Toolbox.

Case assignment: Supply Chain Manager - Skiwear game (3rd Feb)

Case: Supply Chain Designer: Skiwear Sourcing game (Note you do not need to use your email or student number when playing the game)

Case answers are to be submitted via MyCourses as a memo in PDF format. You can answer each question individually or in one essay. In total, the memo should not be longer than three pages, including figures and potential appendices. Also return your Spreadsheet or code that you used for quantitative analysis to solve the case.

The financial and demand information is given in the game play screen for the decision maker. The demand can be assumed to be stochastic with known median and mean quantities.

      Questions:
      1.       Design a sourcing strategy for the Skiwear sourcing game. What is your target and what do you try to optimize? Give a general description of your strategy.
      2.       How much are your order quantities from offshore for the Fashion and Standard product? How much local capacity do you hold and how do you decide your local production quantities? Also, as part of your answer, give your results for the below questions:

      a.       Report your order, capacity and expected local production quantities

      b.       Report results from one round of the game (15 years/rounds) using your strategy

      3.       Explain your reasoning and describe the details of your analysis to find your solution for order quantities, local capacity, and production quantities.

      4.       Give some examples of risks, constraints or further complexities that are not covered by your numerical analysis and solution?

      5.       If these additional factors could be added to the analysis, how would you expect the “optimal” solution to change?
