  • Week 05: Computer-Controlled Cutting

    This week we will cover the basics of computer-controlled cutting which in the context of this course is vinyl and laser cutting. This is the first week when you are expected to come to the lab and use the equipment. Make sure that you allocate enough time for it.

    The vinyl and laser cutter are pre-booked for you during this assignment week. You can use it on a first-come first-served basis, except when the introduction sessions are taking place. If you are late with your assignment, use the available booking possibilities on Aalto Fablab website.

    Machine Introductions

    Machines that are relevant for this assignment week are booked for the course. You can use them on a first-come first-served basis. The only exception is that you should book the introduction sessions beforehand. Introductions are available on Thursdays and Fridays of the assignment week.

        Assignment 05: Computer-Controlled Cutting

        Do the following to complete the assignment.

        • Characterize your lasercutter's focus, power, speed, rate and kerf.
        • Cut something on the vinyl cutter.
        • Design, lasercut a parametric press-fit kit that takes into account the kerf and can be assembled in multiple ways.
        • Document all of the points above in a new page on your documentation website.
        • Submit a link to the assignment page.
        This assignment is graded in the scale from 0 - 5.
