Asignment 11: Molding and Casting Tehtävä

Follow the steps below to complete your assignment.

      • Review the safety data sheets for at least two of labs molding and casting materials.
      • Make and compare test casts with each of them.
      • Design a 3D mold around the stock and tooling that you'll be using.
      • Mill it (rough cut + (at least) three-axis finish cut).
      • Use it to cast parts.
      • Include a hero shot and source files of your design in your documentation.
      • Submit a link to your assignment page here.

Read more about the assignment on the Fab Academy Assessment Guide page.

This assignment will be graded in the scale from 0 - 5.

      Video: 3D Toolpaths with V-Carve Verkko-osoite

In this video an example of creating 3D toolpaths in V-Carve is discussed. Use it to get an impression how to use the same process to create a mold for casting.

Video: 3D Modelling for Molding and Casting Verkko-osoite

In this video creating a simple 3D model for a 3-step molding and casting process is discussed. Use it to get an impression on how to prepare your design for milling.
