Översikt

  • The aim of this week is to understand how laminate stiffnesses are formed and how the responses of laminates can be computed using the Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) based on the Kirchhoff kinematics for flat plates. We also introduce you the expansion of the flat plate theory towards shells in which the curvature is present. This combination forms a basis for the understanding of the more advanced structural theories with more advanced kinematics.  This is followed by the introduction of the First and Third order Shear Deformation Theories (FSDT and TSDT in open literature). The discussion events / question hours are:

Monday September 19th 2022, 10:15-12:00. L5. Classical Lamination Theory (Zoom or Room K150, Otakaari 4)

Wednesday September 21st 2022, 08:15-10:00. L6. First and Third Order Shear Deformation Theories (Zoom or Room K150, Otakaari 4)

I recommend that you perform the following sequence of learning actions:

    1. Get acquainted with the Assignment of this week (see Assignments-section) to get hands-on understanding of the framework where we operate.

    2. Check the video lectures, lecture notes and selected journal and conference papers for this week in order to understand the fundamental ideas and theories we can use to solve the weekly problem. Make notes on them and how you understand them. Pay attention to any knowledge gaps you have.

    3. Join the question hour(s) on Monday or Wednesday to ask about any open issues. We can go through the theory and/or the assignments, the choice is yours. These sessions are reserved for you and the aim of the sessions is to fill the knowledge gaps.

    4. Start making the assignments and submit them for grading when you are done.
