Orientation week
- W35. Wednesday 31 August 9am - 12noon (Design Factory Stage, Betonimiehenkuja 5C). Introduction session: Getting to know each other and the project-based courses in the ME program, and a brief introduction to the course practicalities. You can take a sneak preview of some course materials here.
- W35. Wednesday 31 August 1 - 4pm. Visiting one advanced study topic path of your choice:
- Arctic Technology: 1.15pm at Tietotie 1 (Aalto Ice Tank)
- Engineering Materials: 1.15pm at Puumiehenkuja 3 (K2), front door
- Marine Technology: 1pm at Betonimiehenkuja 5C (Design Factory), Stage
- Mechatronics: 1.30pm at Otakaari 4 (K1), front door
- Product Development: 1pm at Betonimiehenkuja 5C (Design Factory), Puuhamaa
- Production Engineering: 1.15pm at Otakaari 4 (K1), room 215

- W37. Friday 16 September 9 - 11am. Learning about capabilities and impact from industry representatives:
- Antti Rinne, Vice President, Flotation at Metso Outotec
- Nina Sipilä, Production Manager at Cembrit Production Oy
- Bijan Bayat Mokhtari, Mechanical Engineer at Aivan
- W38. Friday 23 September 9 - 11am. Diving deeper in the types of societal connections relevant to mechanical engineering
- After this session, you receive "Homework Assignment 1. PESTEL Analysis", an analysis of the societal interconnections of a provided industry case, which you need to complete within the next two weeks.
Designing what impact you want to have as a Mechanical Engineer
- W39. Schedule a workshop with the Language Center. Workshopping which capabilities are important to put on your CV as a mechanical engineer. You need to attend all three Language Center workshops to gain the LC0400 Communication skills credit.
- W40. Schedule a workshop with the Language Center. Workshopping how to communicate important capabilities in an interview setting. You need to attend all three Language Center workshops to gain the LC0400 Communication skills credit.
- W41. Friday 14 October 9 - 11am. Identifying which capabilities you need to develop to become an impactful and effective mechanical engineer and how.
- After this session, you receive "Homework Assignment 2. Career Pathways", reflecting on your own career options, which you need to complete within the next two weeks.

Exploring which people you can involve to have more impact
- W43. Friday 28 October 9 - 11am. Understanding which people you need to consider or have on board to create change.
- After this session, you receive "Homework Assignment 3. Stakeholder Mapping", an analysis of relevant stakeholders in a provided industry case, which you need to complete within the next two weeks.
- W44. Schedule a workshop with the Language Center. Workshopping a pitch to get stakeholders on board of opportunities. You need to attend all three Language Center workshops to gain the LC0400 Communication skills credit.
Experimenting with how to leverage prototyping
- W45. Friday 11 November 9 - 11am. Understanding how to ideate, prototype, and test.
- W46. Friday 18 November 9 - 11am. Understanding how to ideate, prototype, and test for impact and human considerations.
- After this session, you will need to schedule a meeting with the prototyping coaches to finish your prototype at the PrintShop of Design Factory (downstairs, ask at the lobby if you have trouble finding the room).
- W47. Friday 25 November 9 - 11am. Working with sensors.
- After this session, you will need to schedule a meeting with the prototyping coaches to finish your prototype at the ElectroShop at the Design Factory (downstairs, ask at the lobby if you have trouble finding the room).
- W48. Friday 2 December 9 - 11am. Prototype testing and course wrap-up!
