    • Some general guidelines on how to write and structure your research plan.

Please note: "preliminary research plan" for communicating your topic and ideas to your supervisor can be only 1-2 pages.

The actual research plan you present in the seminar should be more substantial, so that the opponent/discussant (as well as others) get a sufficient idea of what you're planning to do and how.

Note: if your research has already progressed farther than being a plan (you've already put some work on it), do not restrict your self with the plan template. Please, make sure that the "plan" reflects the actual current status of your research. Also, email your presentation slides to the opponent beforehand in a case where the presentation contains more information than the uploaded plan.

    • You are encouraged to use the Turnitin software throughout your thesis writing process to check your work for originality.

The Turnitin return box automatically conducts an electronic originality check of submissions made into it. The features of these Turnitin return boxes are:

      • Originality report is created immediately at the first submission. Re-submissions are allowed until the due date. It may take up to 24 hours to process originality reports for re-submissions.
      • Student papers are stored in the Aalto repository.
      • Student papers are checked against stored student papers, the Internet, journals, periodicals, publications, and the Aalto repository.

Please familiarize yourself with Turnitin's Instructions for Students before getting started.

    • Library's guides for retrieving information from various sources

    • Though the material talks about bachelors, the principles are the same for master's thesis.

    • Videos cover topics such as utilizing various databases, the use of references and handling of Mendeley reference manager. Note that even though you are signed in to the MyCourses, you need to click one of the viedos to sign-in with Aalto credentials to unlock panopto-videos. After this second sign-in you may have to refresh the page.

    • Use this template to format your thesis. Make sure you read the instructions in the file and have comments enabled to see additional topical instructions before you modify the contents. The template incorporates the official Aalto Abstract template and Cover Page.

*** If you encounter an issue where the section heading is not displayed in the page header, it is likely due to the localization of your copy of Office. To fix the issue, you can edit the field to change the part that says "Heading 1" to the name of it in the language you're using. ***
