The aim of the week is to introduce you the concept of a thin-walled structure, and to give you the understanding of the issues affecting the analysis and the discretization of the thin-walled structures when using the Finite Element Analysis. We also go through the material selection and modeling issues associated with the different type of analyses we need to do during the design process. Thus, the week forms the basis for the following weeks by defining the framework where we operate. The discussion events / question hours are:
Monday September 4th 2023, 10:15-12:00. L1. General info + Design and Loads (Zoom or Room K150, Otakaari 4)
Wednesday September 6th 2023, 08:15-10:00. L2. Materials (Zoom or Room K150, Otakaari 4)
I recommend that you perform the following sequence of learning actions:
1. Get acquainted with the Assignment of this week (see Assignments-section) to get hands-on understanding of the framework where we operate.
2. Check the video lectures, lecture notes and selected journal and conference papers for this week in order to understand the fundamental ideas and theories we can use to solve the weekly problem. Make notes on them and how you understand them. Pay attention to any knowledge gaps you have.
3. Join the question hour(s) on Monday or Wednesday to ask about any open issues. We can go through the theory and/or the assignments, the choice is yours. These sessions are reserved for you and the aim of the sessions is to fill the knowledge gaps.
4. Start making the assignments and submit them for grading when you are done.
