The aim of the week is to understand the fatigue assessment procedure(s) of large complex thin-walled structures and apply the knowledge to practical design problems. While doing this, we need different sub-modeling techniques that are reviewed as well. We also study the vibration related aspects that contribute to the load-cycles affecting fatigue, but also to more advanced design criteria such as human comfort. The discussion events / question hours are:
Monday October 2nd 2023, 10:15-12:00. L9. Fatigue analysis and sub-models (Zoom or Room K150, Otakaari 4)
Wednesday October 4th 2023, 08:15-10:00. L10. Vibration analysis (Zoom)
I recommend that you perform the following sequence of learning actions:
1. Get acquainted with the Assignment of this week (see Assignments-section) to get hands-on understanding of the framework where we operate.
2. Check the video lectures, lecture notes and selected journal and conference papers for this week in order to understand the fundamental ideas and theories we can use to solve the weekly problem. Make notes on them and how you understand them. Pay attention to any knowledge gaps you have.
3. Join the question hour(s) on Monday or Wednesday to ask about any open issues. We can go through the theory and/or the assignments, the choice is yours. These sessions are reserved for you and the aim of the sessions is to fill the knowledge gaps.
4. Start making the assignments and submit them for grading when you are done.
