      Assignment 4: Journal article analysis

Select one of the journal articles you have found for your review paper.

      1.      First, read at least the abstract, introduction, results and conclusion to get an overview of the main content of the article.

      2.      Then, focus on the use of sources in the article. How do(es) the author(s) of the article refer to the sources (author-date, with numbers)? Where were the in-text citations placed? Do you know specifically which referencing system was followed? How many sources were used?

      3.      After that, focus on the language use in the article. Which features of academic writing are you able to identify (for example, formal style, clarity, preciseness, hedged language use, objectiveness, assertiveness)? For the features, see  http://www.uefap.com/writing/feature/featfram.htm, if you want. Give examples.

      4.      Finally, analyse the introduction of the article. Do(es) the author(s) follow the CaRS model in the introduction? Are you able to identify (any of) the moves of the model in the introduction? Please mark them in the text.

Please submit the article (either a link in the text box OR the whole article file as an attachment if you have marked the CaRS moves and some other answers directly to it) and your analysis (answers to the questions can be added to the text box) to this Return box. Please be prepared to share and discuss your findings in class.
