Preface
After a decade of relatively low industrial activity we are currently seeing a considerable investment and interest in European defence industry. At the same time related scientific research has been re-initiated. Besides well-known practices and processes, several attempts have been made to merge commercial and consumer electronics components and methods to the often harsh military environment.
Radar has been and still is perhaps one of the most hidden areas on defence electronics. It is indeed an application of radio engineering and utilizes the propagation of electromagnetic waves but - in order to operate properly - the majority of practical radar devices and systems require a substantial amount of sophisticated electronic circuits and modules.
This course focuses at various electronic circuits and subsystems needed in modern radar equipment. Issues covered here in the web material include but are not limited to high power high voltage power supplies, video detection and amplification, digital circuits used in modulators and coders, antenna pedestals and their control electronics, angular measurements and various display systems. As applications, stationary, maritime and airborne radars are considered.
