Dear all,
welcome to the course “Paper development workshop: Qualitative Research” (21L53609).
During this spring, supported by this hands-on course, you are invited to develop a full empirical paper based on the analysis of your qualitative datasets and materials. The paper can be e.g. a conference paper, a journal article, or a thesis essay.
While there are multiple approaches to qualitative research, we adopt one which is the most used and published in the best academic journals – the data-driven approach. In this approach, the kind of arguments that the paper can make, and thus its’ scope and potential contribution, are defined by the empirical data. Be prepared to work with your empirical materials from the day one of the workshop. Versions of the paper are submitted for the sessions II-IV. On these same sessions you will also provide feedback on other participants' papers, and receive feedback from both peers and professors.
The course is then structured accordingly – moving from data analysis, to theorizing from the data, to scoping the full paper. This being said, there is room for alternative progress with our papers, depending on your approach and the status of the paper. The workshop convenes in V101 (Istuntosali) on the following times. NOTE, while the ending time is marked at 16 this is the latest ending time. I provide schedules for each session prior to the session.
Fri 26.01. at 09.00–12.00: Introduction to the course and participants
Fri 09.02. at 9.00-16.00: Presenting empirical analyses and considering “what is this a case of”?
Fri 12.04. at 9.00-16.00: Theorizing from the empirical data
Thu 30.05. at 9.00-16.00: Presenting and discussing your full papers
Please note that you are expected to work on your papers extensively between the sessions to finalizing a full paper towards the end of the spring. Reserve also time to read and comments on others' work for sessions II-IV.
Karelia Dagnaud supports me in organizing the course while also participating in the course.
I look forward to working with and getting to know each of you!
