Learn to understand and analyse how cinematography effects to drama and how it is related to the film’s impact. Getting to know the tradition and profession of cinema analytically.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Extract the film's visual narrative in terms of photography and the use of light, into a written form.

    In the analysis, look at a) the film as a whole, b) two scenes of your choice from the point of view of the cinematographer and c) extract a scene where there is a different visual approach to the other scenes in the film.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Active and regular participation to working and lectures, accomplishment of given tasks and self-reflection about the learning process during the workshop.

    Evaluation criteria based on student’s own reflection about their own learning process. Student’s own progress evaluated in common feed-back session at the end of the workshop where final analysis will be presented to teachers and other students.

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    At least 80% participation in face-to-face teaching is mandatory to complete the course. If, due to absences, the student does not achieve the learning outcomes defined in the course description, the remaining 20% may have to be compensated as determined by the responsible teachers of the course. All absences must be reported to the teachers in charge. The responsible teachers of the course will specify the necessary compensating assignments.

    Participating at the opening day of the workshop is mandatory.

    Lectures 20 h.

    Student’s independent work 61 h.

    Lectures, student’s independent work according to chosen film that is analysed.

    The analysis will be presented to everyone in common feedback session.

Study Material

    Course material will be delivered at the beginning of the course.

    Participants will choose the analysed film by themselves.

    Source material eg dvd-films, dvd extras, internet, books and own contribution to the analysis.
