LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student knows the relevant management theories and project management methods in the industry. The student can think strategically and is able to be analytical about one's own management skills and how to develop as a leader. The student has tools to lead both a professional production crew and a creative team. The student will understand project management and strategic planning as instruments in managing a successful creative business.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Management theories, strategic planning and project management. Analysing one's personal point of view related to power and responsibility while analysing individual leadership methods.

    We will focus more on leadership than management. The course will concentrate on three layers of leadership: leading self, leading a company and leading others. We will start by discussing leadership in general and what makes a good leader. Then focus on personal values and leadership. We will widen the concept of personal leadership to leading self and leading a company. The we will focus on leading others, mostly related to leading artists but also staff.

    We will do lectures and group work in the morning and group work and individual assignments in the afternoon. You'll find one assignment already and other assignments will be handed out after the morning lectures.


Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Assessment is based on attendance and completed assignments. Active participation in lectures and discussions as well as completing the assignments, independent writing and participation in group work are assessed.

    At least 80% participation in face-to-face teaching is mandatory to complete the course. If, due to absences, the student does not achieve the learning outcomes defined in the course description, the remaining 20% may have to be compensated as determined by the responsible teachers of the course. All absences must be reported to the teachers in charge. The responsible teachers of the course will specify the necessary compensating assignments.

Workload

    Lectures, group discussions, presentations, writing and development exercises in smaller groups or independently.

    Contact teaching 32 h. Independent work 49 h. Lectures, literature, independent and group assigments.
