LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze the principles and techniques involved in cell engineering, encompassing genetic engineering techniques, and other methods to modify cellular behavior.
  2. Assess diverse applications of cell engineering in biotechnology, including the production of small molecules and proteins.
  3. Apply systems biology concepts to understand how cellular components interact in the context of cell engineering.
  4. Evaluate challenges in cell engineering projects, critically analyze potential solutions, and decide on effective strategies to address engineering goals.

Content

    This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the principles, techniques, and applications of cell engineering for small molecule and protein production. Genetic engineering methodologies as well as other techniques to modify cellular behavior will be delved into, and characteristics of host cells analyzed. Future directions of the field will be discussed, and challenges and opportunities anticipated.
