Second Assignment (5 cr) - My Team Building Process (DL 29.10.)
The purpose of the second assignment is to support you 1) to reflect on your experiences as a group/team lead in Junction preparation phase, 2) to actualise your plans to prepare your team for the event, and 3) to consider your situational leadership ideas and strategies.
1. Reflection on the early leadership/collaboration experiences
Your leadership role in Junction has already started. Take a look of your leadership principles and ideals you described in the first assignment. Reflect on how have you been able to apply and follow your principles so far in with your team members and peers. How have you managed to bond with others in fruitful ways? Describe your actions and behavior in some key moments/encounters where you managed to follow your principles well.
2. My team building and preparation process
Make a plan for your team building and preparation process from this moment till the Junction event. What are your aims for the team building? What all will tell you that you have been able to prepare the team for the event? What steps/actions/meetings are you going to arrange and take to prepare your team? What will be your ways to show appreciation, and support the sense of belonging and inclusion within the team? How are you going to nurture the intrinsic motivation and drivers of your team? Make as detailed plan as you can. Describe how are you going to discuss and communicate with your team members in the first meeting. In case you have had the meeting already, you can describe and reflect on your experiences under the previous question.
3. Situational leadership – my strategy
The last part of the assignment is a review of an article on Situational Leadership. Read and summarise the main points of the article. Compare the findings presented in the paper to your own leadership assumptions/view. In which ways your thoughts and ideas are similar to those presented in the paper? And in which ways did they differ from those presented in the study? Construct your own view of situational leadership. How would you be prepared to respond to surprising situations in responsible way? Evaluate shortly how useful the article was for you in understanding the situational leadership as a whole, and which parts/dimensions of it you find applicable in your team/group lead role in Junction.
